Ohioans with DODD have a variety of supports available to assist them to work and earn money in the community.
New services recently became available for individuals on the Individual Options and Level One Waivers administered by the Ohio Department of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities. These services include Supported Employment that provides ongoing supports to help people work in a community setting.
Certified individual and agency providers and the County Boards of DODD provide services such as: supported employment, ongoing job support, job coaching, job developing, benefits planning. These services can assist an individual to work part-time of full-time in the community individually or in an enclave. For more information on the community employment services in your community, contact your local County Board of DODD and/or provider(s) of DODD services.
The Ohio Rehabilitation Services Commission (ORSC) through their local Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation (BVR) and Bureau of Services for the Visually Impaired (BSVI) offices provide services leading to employment for people with disabilities. The Ohio Department of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities has an interagency program agreement with the ORSC for the provision of vocational rehabilitation services to mutually eligible individuals with developmental disabilities.
